Thomas Roger Cross, born July 22, 1938 in Des Moines, Iowa, passed away December 16, 2020 at the age of 82 in The Bridges at Ankeny from complications of Covid 19.
Tom graduated from Lincoln High School in 1957. He enlisted in the U.S. Army for 3 years. After his military service, he became a Des Moines Police Officer, then worked at Firestone Tire and Rubber, and retired from Anderson Window Company in Bayport, MN.
Tom had a love of flying and obtained his pilot’s license. He enjoyed playing golf, even playing at Pebble Beach Golf Club in California with his brothers. He also loved spending winters in Arizona. Tom taught his children to face adversities with a sense of humor.
He is survived by his best friend and significant other of 20 years, Janet Cross; children: Tracy (John) McGreevy, Todd Cross, and Cole Cross; grandson, Sean McGreevy; step-daughter, Diane Foster (Dan); brothers: Charles, Kenny (Darlene), and Dave (Lisa) Cross; nieces and nephews, as well as many other loving family and special friends.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Clinton and Alice Cross; granddaughter, Denelle McGreevy; brother, Jack Rizer; and sister-in-law, Judy Cross.
Per Tom’s request, no services are planned. The family would like to thank everyone at The Bridges at Ankeny for their compassionate care of Tom. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or Alzheimer’s Association in memory of Tom.
