On Sunday, January 15, 2023, Shirley Jean Fuller (age 93) slipped away from life and the loving arms of the family who surrounded her as she left this world. That day, we lost a devoted mother, loving grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother, dear sister and wonderful friend. She was a dedicated wife to Bob Fuller (married 53 years until his death in 2001) and his loyal business partner at Fuller Petroleum in Adel.
Shirley loved her family, ceramics, her work as a travel agent, her time in Eastern Star, fishing in Minnesota, Adel Sweet Corn Parade, vacations (especially Colorado and San Francisco), riding her bike, watching old movies, playing cribbage and dominoes with her grandkids, apple salad and homemade ice cream. Throughout her last years, she displayed incredible fortitude, bravery and a strength of character and resiliency that was a shining example to her family.
Shirley was born April 7, 1929, in Ottumwa to Harold and Blanch Fredrickson. She was the middle child and loved well by her parents and two brothers and two sisters. Shirley met Bob on a blind date, married October 3,1948 in Dallas Center and eventually moved to Adel where they raised their four sons. Left to share in her legacy are Kelly (Debra), Terry (Cathy) and Tom (Linda), 10 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren, her brother Rick and sister Roxie. Her husband Robert, son Gregg and two siblings, Glenn (Bud) Fredrckson and Corrine Grogan, preceded her in death.
Shirley’s family expresses their deepest gratitude to her friends and staff at Spurgeon Manor in Dallas Center for the loving care she received during her years there and for easing her transition from this life to the next.
A Memorial Service for Shirley will be held at 11am on Saturday, Feb. 25th in Adel at Faith Lutheran Church followed by a private burial in Oakdale cemetery. Family and friends are invited to remember and celebrate Shirley and attend a luncheon in her honor directly following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Good Samaritan Food Pantry in Adel.
