Ronald Dean Coppick. Sr.

Ronald Dean Coppick Sr., 83, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at his home in Des Moines.

Ron was born March 19, 1938 to Roy and Violet Coppick. He married Neva Louise Duke on May 11, 1957. To this marriage, three children were born: Sheral, Ron Jr., and Ronda.

Ron worked for the City of Des Moines Forestry Department where he retired after 30 years. He lived most of his life in Des Moines with his wife, raising their children to understand the importance of faith, family and hard work.

After retirement, he and his wife moved to their home at Lake Diamondhead in Dexter, Iowa. He returned to Des Moines a few years ago to be closer to his family and his many friends at the Pleasant Hill Diner. He especially enjoyed visiting with his longtime friend Jerry Forrest and his wife Sue, who lived nearby.

Ron loved spending time outdoors; camping, fishing and hunting. For those who knew him well, he was carefree and at times careless. It seemed he had 9 lives; falling out of trees, rolling riding lawn mowers and 4 wheelers, tipping boats and was known to throw gasoline on campfires. Ron was an ornery character and loved to razz his family and friends to no end. He is loved and will be missed.

Ron is survived by his daughters Sheral Coppick and Ronda (Mark) Brandenburg; grandchildren Nicholas, Andrew, Melissa & Leighton Coppick, Emma (Brian) Swedberg, Leah (Nick) Thomas, and Olivia Brandenburg. In addition, great grandchildren Opal & Adam Swedberg, and Noah & Nora Thomas.

Ron was preceded in death by his wife Neva, son Ron Jr., many family members and friends.

Thank you to all who provided support and companionship to him and his family during the end of his life, including the staff at Wesley Life Hospice.

The family invites friends to celebrate his life, on Sunday, November 14, 2021 at the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden at 909 Robert D. Ray Dr., from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, consider making a donation directly to Youth Emergency Services & Shelter (YESS) or to Animal Rescue League (ARL).
