Myrna Jean Benson Fluharty

Myrna Jean Benson Fluharty, 97, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2026.

Funeral services will be held on May 16, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Fort Des Moines Church of Christ, located at 244 E. Army Post Road, Des Moines, Iowa 50315. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance and celebration of a life well lived.

Myrna was born on May 29, 1928, to Lewis Charles Benson and Muriel Mae Claybaugh Benson. She grew up surrounded by her brothers and sisters: Wendell Benson, Alta Benson Leake, Lucille Benson Poston, Dee Wight Benson Sr., Lavann “Bonnie” Benson Burgett, Cpl. Russell Merel Benson Sr., Lois Benson, Darlene Benson Nicodemus, Bobbie Benson, Alan Benson, and Eunice Benson Wagner.

On June 12, 1945, she married the love of her life, Harold Eugene Fluharty. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and resilience. He preceded her in death, along with her parents, all of her siblings, her daughter Karen Elaine Logsdon, and her son-in-law Jerry Logsdon.

She is survived by her children: Larry Eugene (Pat) and Dale Edgar (Karen). She was a proud grandmother to Michael Eugene, Brian, Jason, Michael Wade, Michelle Brown , Lindsay, Jerry Lee Logsdon , and Todd Logsdon .

Her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren: Caleb, Hunter, Isaac, Alex, Cora, Daphne, Ellie, Ava, Tyler, Trinity, Cordelia, and Colton; and her great-great-granddaughter, Rayna.

Myrna’s life spanned nearly a century, a testament to strength, perseverance, and deep love for her family. She will be remembered for her quiet grit, warm smile, and the generations she shaped simply by being their steady foundation.
