Toby started his own countertop fabrication company, Alexander & Associates, which he owned for 40 years and where he employed seven craftsmen.

Toby loved the outdoors and participated in many sports such as archery, fishing, and bike riding. His home was filled with numerous fishing and archery trophies, and he was a member of Mid-Iowa Archery for years. An avid bike rider, Toby completed RAGBRAI (the iconic yearly bike ride across Iowa) multiple times. In all endeavors, Toby made many friends along the way and always had stories to share from his adventures.

An animal lover, Toby owned many dogs throughout his life and cherished each one of them. Wherever he went, he had a dog with him.
