Michael Edward Luken, 48, passed away peacefully at his home on July 17, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by the love of his family.

A Celebration of Michael's Life will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, August 14, 2026, at the Waukee Community Center, 675 Walnut Street, Waukee, Iowa.

Michael was born on November 28, 1977, in Spencer, Iowa. He grew into a man known for his kind heart, unwavering work ethic, and deep love for those closest to him. As a self-employed computer programmer, Michael took great pride in his work, using his knowledge and creativity to help others while building a career through dedication and perseverance.

Above all else, Michael was devoted to his family. He was a loving and devoted husband to his wife, Kalie, and a proud and caring father to his sons, Jackson and Andrew. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, supporting his boys, and creating a home filled with love, laughter, and encouragement. Michael was known for his quiet strength, gentle spirit, and quick wit that could bring a smile to those around him, even during life's most difficult moments. He was a cherished son, a wonderful brother and uncle, and a loyal friend whose kindness, generosity, and steady presence touched the lives of many. His love for his family and the example he set through his compassion, humility, and unwavering devotion will be remembered always.

Those who knew Michael will remember his quiet strength, gentle spirit, and the way he always made time for the people he cared about. His love, compassion, and steady presence will be deeply missed and forever treasured.

Michael is lovingly remembered by his wife, Kalie; his sons, Jackson and Andrew; his mother, Karen (Bill) Bumgarner; his father, Gene (Kelly) Luken; his sister, Kristin; his niece, Lilly; his nephew, Dylan; along with many extended family members and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Leonard and Maye Luken, Leroy and Wanda Breyfogle; and his aunt, Janeane Luken.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations will be placed into a trust fund established for Michael's children, honoring his greatest legacy—the love he had for his family.

Michael's life was a beautiful reminder that the greatest measure of a person is not found in what they accomplish, but in how deeply they love. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
