Martin Stevenson

Martin Stevenson was born on September 23, 1937, in Moulton, Iowa. He was raised and educated there, graduating from Moulton High School before beginning a life centered around family, hard work, and community. Martin passed away on November 30, 2025, at Arbor Springs in West Des Moines, Iowa.


On September 1, 1957, Martin married L. Kay Barnett in West Grove, Iowa, and the two made their home in Des Moines. Together they lovingly raised two children: Melanie and Shawn. Kay preceded him in death on December 25, 1993, in Des Moines. Martin dedicated many years of service as a technician for C.H. McGuiness Co., where he was known for his reliability, skill, and kindness toward those he served.


On February 1, 1997, Martin married Norma Howard at Aldersgate Methodist Church in Urbandale, Iowa. They shared 28 years of love, companionship and joy. Martin enjoyed playing softball, pool, bocce ball, square dancing, and serving his community. He proudly held the role of president of the Urbandale Senior Center, where he spent countless hours playing cards and dominos and forming meaningful friendships. He and Norma also cherished their time traveling and taking cruises together.


Martin is survived by his wife Norma; children Melanie Froyen and Shawn Stevenson, stepchildren Kathryn Weeks and Bobby Howard; seven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and his sister, Sandra Burgher. He was preceded in death by his siblings Marilyn, Robert, and Rodney.


A funeral service to honor Martin’s life will be held on Saturday, December 6, at 11:00 a.m. at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 3600 75th St., Urbandale, Iowa. Inurnment will take place at a later date.
