Jerry E. Tigges, age 81, died peacefully at Glenwood Place in Marshalltown on December 6, 2023. Jerry was the first born to John and Beth Tigges on December 23, 1941 and was a lifelong resident of Marshall County. Notably he was a member of the last graduating class from Van Cleve High School.
Jerry worked at Lennox for 40 years and proudly served as a union steward. His true passion was farming, and his loyalty to International Harvester and the Tigges family farm was steadfast.
No one could match Jerry’s remarkable memory for dates and events, and his ability to recount both the family’s and community’s histories is irreplaceable and will be sadly missed. He was extremely well read and was troubled by the decline of print media. He was an outspoken defender of the principle that all people are created equal with equal rights and privileges, without exception.
Jerry will be remembered as a devoted son and grandson. He is survived by his sisters, Sue Fox and Barb Dietz, and nephew Dean Fox, niece Jill Fox, and their families.
According to Jerry’s wishes, no memorial service will be held. He will be interred alongside his parents at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marshalltown.
