James Orrin Choate, 81, of Jefferson, Iowa passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, February 24, 2021.
James was born on July 14, 1939 in Greeley, Iowa to Fon Adelbert Choate and Dorothy Ellen Choate. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corp in 1956, serving four years. James worked in Jefferson and then Grand Junction, Iowa as a diesel mechanic.
His interests included woodworking, reading, puzzles, and spending time with his family. Aside from his family, he was passionate about two things: The Marines and Ford vehicles.
James was preceded in death by his first wife, Donna (Payton) Choate, two sons, Gregory Choate, Donald Choate and son-in-law, Dan Powell. He is survived by his second wife, Joyce (Thompson) Choate, a son, Dale Choate (Renee), five daughters, Bea Elliot (Mike), Jeannie Choate, Lavina Hicks, Darlene Vander Wilt (Chris) and Drenda Langfitt, as well as several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
James will be cremated, and a small graveside service will be held in Jefferson, Iowa with a date to be determined.
