James J. Christy

May 8, 1934 – December 5, 2022


James Joseph Christy was born on May 8, 1934, in Carroll, IA. to Donald and Irene (Wegner) Christy. He died December 5, 2022, after years of battling Parkinson disease.

Jim graduated from Bagley High School in 1953. He served in the United States Marines from 1954 to 1958 being honorably discharged as a Sergeant.


After his military service he worked briefly in Des Moines in the construction industry before moving to Los Angeles California where he continued construction work.


Upon retirement he moved back to Des Moines helping family and friends with many home improvement projects. He had a green thumb for gardening and was an expert at landscaping. Also, demonstrated his prowess for investing in the stock market.


He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother John W (Jack) Christy, brothers-in-law Robert Jay King and William S (Sarg) Ladd, a grandchild, Amanda Hill and three nephews, Steven Christy, Timothy Christy and Robert (Bobby) John King.


Jim is survived by a daughter, Michelle Hill (John), Denver CO. Sisters Kathleen (Kaye) King, Nashville, TN., Theresan Guiney (Robert) Wyckoff, NJ., Muriel Ladd, Niwot, CO., Colleen James (Fred) Del Mar, CA., and brothers, Nile Christy, Nashville, TN., Dennis Christy (Chris), Clive, IA., and David Christy (Nancy), West Des Moines, IA., Sister-in-law Phyllis Vincent Christy, St Paul, MN. A granddaughter Aimee McClure (Miles), great grandchildren, Kaley Keisler, Sarah Keisler, Dylan Keisler and many nieces and nephews.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on June 17th at 10:30am Annunciation Catholic Church (702 Elm St, Coon Rapids, IA) with burial to follow at Coon Rapids Cemetery. On June 18th, there will be a Celebration of Life at the Nature Lodge at Raccoon River Park (2500 Grand Ave, West Des Moines, IA) from 12:00pm-3:00pm to further honor James's life.

Memorial donations can be made to the Iowa Jewish Senior Life Center or Suncrest Hospice.
