Gary E. Skinner – Des Moines

Gary E. Skinner, 67 of Des Moines died of metastatic pancreatic cancer on Friday, October 2, 2020 at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines.

Gary was born on October 12, 1952 in Fairbolt, Minnesota to Ed and Jeanette (Hulebak) Skinner. Gary retired from the United States Postal Service Vehicle Maintenance Facility in 2018 after 38 years of dedicated service.

Gary is survived by his best friend and loving wife Sue Skinner; two sons Luke (Jaila) Skinner and Clint (Sara) Skinner; two grandchildren Wyatt and Lily Skinner; three brothers Al, Tom and Jim Skinner.

Gary was a fishing and outdoors enthusiast. He loved fishing, boating, canoeing, swimming, camping and a good old campfire. He was giving of himself with more than 25 years in the Boy Scouts of America Program as Cub and Scout Masters and Explorer Adviser. Gary brought great joy to thousands young and old as Santa for 2 decades. Gary loved Ham Radio for the past 35 years and was the voice that called the No Name Vintage Net for years his booming voice herd all over America. The last 2 years he enjoyed riding his recumbent tricycle on the bike paths near Des Moines Gary was proud of his Norwegian heritage and was the proudest of Grandpas making snowmen, fishing, riding bikes, playing chess or cribbage with his grandchildren they gave him great joy.

Always one to help others family or friends Gary’s smile is one that is known to all and he will be remembered for it as we remember him.
