Fredrick "Freddy/Derf" Rummans

Fredrick (Freddy/Derf) George Rummans, 81, of Des Moines passed away on January 3rd, 2021 at Adel Acres Nursing Home after his long battle with dementia.


He was Born on March 26, 1939 in Louisiana to Walter and Georgina Rummans. He received his education and graduated from Saydel High school in 1957. Soon after he joined the U.S Air Force where he served for 4 years as a morse code translator.


In his free time Fred enjoyed playing Golf, fishing, and hanging out with all his buddies.


He was a member of many organizations including the Elks Lodge, Shriners (Za-Ga-Zig Shrine)of Altoona and the American Legion just to name a few.


Fred spent most his adult life working in construction and for the Iowa Pipeline where he traveled a lot and met his beautiful bride, Sandra Swift, of Keokuk Iowa. Fred and Sandra married on Dec. 31, 1994 and joined together 9 wonderful children. Fred's – Ruth(Larry)Mott, Denise(Joe)Corso, Laura(Clark)Trotter, and Fredrick Jr.

Sandra’s – Teri(Eugene)Quintana, Jeff(Laura)Johnson, Phillip(Julie)Johnson, Rae Ann(Stan)Townsend and Amber(Chuck)Broeker, together they shared 20 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.


He was proceeded in death by his parents Walter and Georgina, daughter Ruth, and son Fred Jr.


Due to covid -19, Funeral services will be held at a later date for friends and family at the Veterans cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa followed by a gathering at Ambro’s Roadhouse in De Soto, Iowa.
