David Snyder, 82, of Grinnell, IA, died at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines, IA, on Friday, March 12, 2021. No end of life services are planned at this time. David was born December 5, 1938, in Austin, MN, to Howard and Ruth Snyder. He graduated from Austin, MN, High School in 1956 and graduated from Mankato State University in 1963. David married Mona Bolles on March 15, 1958. David and Mona moved their family to Grinnell, IA, in 1967. They raised their children in this community and resided there until recently moving to Legacy Pointe senior living in Waukee, IA. David taught English and German for many years, the majority of his career at Grinnell Community High School. He retired from teaching in 1998. He also worked for Monsanto in Grinnell during the summers while teaching and following his retirement from education. David was an avid reader and movie viewer. He enjoyed sitting on the front porch with a good book, visiting with friends who stopped by. He was an excellent cook, known for his grilling, bean soup, and holiday party mix. David made frequent trips to the grocery store, Caseys, and the lake. David is survived by his sons Doug (Judy) of West Des Moines, IA and Mark (Lynn) of West Branch, IA; son-in-law Mark Kistler of Coralville, IA; granddaughter Kristen Struzynski (Jason) of Amana, IA; grandsons Brian Kistler of Aurora, CO, Joel Snyder of Milwaukee, WI, Josh Snyder of Iowa City, IA and Owen Snyder of Ames, IA; and great granddaughters Zoey and Tess Struzynkski. David was preceded in death by his wife, Mona Snyder; parents Ruth and Howard (Pete) Snyder; and daughter Monica Kistler.
