David Allen Curtis

David Allen Curtis, 63, passed away due to complications from cancer on July 6th, 2021 at MercyOne Johnston Hospice in Johnston, Iowa, with family by his side. David was born on October 22nd, 1957, in Des Moines, Iowa. He attended Theodore Roosevelt High School in Des Moines. Dave is survived by his mother, LaVonna, brother, Steve, and sister, Carla; his wife of 37 years, Mary, his son, Collin, and daughters, Erin and Ariel; and by his granddaughter, Everly. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins close to his heart. He was preceded in death by his father, Carleton Clyde Curtis.

Dave had many interests which he shared with his family: music, classic cars, coins, news, and home-grown tomatoes, to name a few. He ran his own newspaper, the Bull's Eye, with the help of his wife, Mary, for over 20 years. He was a hard worker, and on his days off, you would find him hanging out with his granddaughter, Everly, or watching Hawkeye football or basketball. He was a proud alumni of the University of Iowa where he earned a degree in Journalism, a minor in Political Science, and was able to study abroad in England for part of his academic career. Dave was a respected small businessman in Polk County for his work as a writer, photographer and reporter on the Bull's Eye, and was proud to have achieved his dream to publish his own newspaper. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
