Barbara Jean Plumb

Barbara Jean Plumb, 80, from Ankeny, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, December 8th, 2024, at Karen Acres Nursing home in Urbandale, Iowa.

Barb was born on November 25, 1944, in Brunswick, Georgia. 

Barb graduated from Jennie Edmundson School of nursing in Council Bluffs, Iowa and obtained her BSN of nursing from Grandview College in Des Moines. She worked in several hospitals throughout Iowa and many different areas of Nursing including, OB Labor and Delivery Nurse, ICU/CCU Nurse, Home Care Nurse, Head Nurse, and Nurse Manager. Barb retired from the Veterans Administration Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.  

Even while attending nursing school and working at the hospital, Barb made sure to attend every event for her children. Countless swimming meets, band and chorus concerts, basketball and football games. She also loved watching her granddaughters play softball and spoiling all of her grandchildren. Barb enjoyed camping, traveling, baking, reading, and spending time with friends and family. Later in life, Barb found art and learned to draw and paint. She had an amazing talent and drew several pictures found in her home.

Barb will be deeply missed by her children, Sherry (Bob) Franklin-Brinkac, Shelly (Jay) Chance, Mark (Darci) Plumb; 6 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren; close family friend, Marge Hawn; siblings Carol (Ronnie) Whittrock, Bob (Cindy) Schreiner, Sharon (Fred) Haller; as well as many nieces and nephews and numerous friends. 

Barb is preceded in death by her parents, Robert Schreiner and Doris (Reed) Schreiner; granddaughter, Grace Mae Chance; and brother-in-law Ronnie Whittrock.

A celebration of life will be held on January 18th, 2025, at 10:00 am at the Plymouth Church 4126 Ingersoll Ave, Des Moines, IA 50312
