William V. Major passed away August 8, 2022 at Luther Park Trinity Center in Des Moines, IA. Bill was born in Chicago, IL, October 7, 1938, to William C. Major and Berniece A. (Daugherty) Major.
He is survived by his wife Carol Kay (Conover) Major, his half sister Pam Major of Eustis, FL, and his half brother Jim Berner of Barneveld, WI, his sisters-in-law Marie Conover of Lincoln, NE, Dorothy Johnston of Waconia, MN, Kathryn Grell (Dennis) of Altoona, IA, and his brother-in-law, Marion Conover (Bonnie) of Adel, IA and several nieces and nephews.
Bill graduated from Drake University. He and Carol met in Des Moines and were married in the Little Brown Church, Nashua, IA. Bill entered the Army after he graduated from Drake and was stationed at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO. He was an MP and attained the rank of PFC-E3. Upon returning to Des Moines, Bill worked at Bankers Life Insurance Co. He left Bankers Life to start a picture framing business which he operated from their home in Urbandale, IA. Bill greatly enjoyed meeting and working with customers, many of whom became friends. As an additional side job, he measured and ordered table pads for Younkers department stores.
Bill was an accomplished artist, creating many original pieces for family, as well as commissioned pieces for individuals and businesses. He had many other interests, most notably following the Chicago Cubs since his boyhood having grown up in the Wrigleyville area of Chicago.
The family will have a private interment at a later date. Both Carol and Bill had a love for animals. You may honor Bill's memory by making a donation to the Animal Rescue League of Des Moines.
