William Isenhart

William Earl Isenhart was born on September 15, 1936. He grew up on a farm south of Redfield, Iowa, as the oldest of four brothers. After graduating from high school, Earl joined the United States Navy, where he proudly served for three years and had the opportunity to travel around the world. Following his time in the Navy, he returned home and attended Drake University.

On January 23, 1959, Earl married Inez Wardene Thompson. He began a long career with Firestone, where he worked for nearly 40 years. Earl and Wardene welcomed their first daughter, Debra Ann, on April 21, 1960, followed by their daughter Cynthia Jo on May 17, 1962.

The family made their home in the Beaverdale area of Des Moines, where they lived for 40 years. Earl was a devoted father who coached Little League softball and faithfully attended his daughters’ sporting events as they grew up. He was also an avid reader. In later years, one of his greatest joys was attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and cheering them on.

Earl passed away peacefully on August 30, 2026, just 16 days shy of his 90th birthday.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 52 years, Wardene, and his parents, Floyd and Mary Isenhart.

Earl is survived by his daughters, Deb Isenhart and Cindy (Chris) Sonner; grandchildren, Todd (Traci) Sonner and Abby (Casey) Woodside; great-grandchildren, Rone and Mack Sonner and Ada and Cal Woodside; brothers, John Isenhart, Bob (Diane) Isenhart, and Tom (Susan) Isenhart; sister-in-law, Terri (Paul) Beaman; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the long-term care staff at Brio of Johnston and Hospice of Wesley Life for the kindness, compassion, and care they provided to dad during his final month.
