Wayne K. Whitmer

Wayne Kenneth Whitmer, 76, of Perry, IA, peacefully passed away at home and surrounded by his family on December 1, 2025.

Born on July 22, 1949, in Eagle Grove, IA, Wayne spent his youth in Fort Dodge, IA.  As one of twelve children, he came from a large family and always treasured the time he spent with his siblings.  In 1968, Wayne married his beloved wife, Phyllis, and moved to Perry, IA. He was a devoted father to Amy, Ben, and Emily and an active and fun grandfather to his only grandson, Taran.

Wayne thrived on being active and productive.  He dedicated nearly 50 years to the construction trade, performing a variety of work and building throughout central Iowa.  Wayne put his skills to good use and volunteered his time and expertise to assist in the building of several Kingdom Halls of Jehovah’s Witnesses across the state.  In addition to these construction projects, he spent time every week sharing his faith as a volunteer Bible teacher.

Wayne also found great joy in being outdoors. He often hiked at Ledges State Park, cycled on Iowa’s many trails, or sought out the Colorado Rockies and other national parks.  Everyone who knew Wayne, though, knew his favorite activity was riding motorcycles, especially dirt bikes.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Phyllis, and their three children: Amy, Ben, and Emily (Yu); and grandson, Taran (Valerie); and his brothers, Donald, Richard, Larry, Jon, and Gary and their families. He was preceded in death by his son, Jeremiah; his parents Dale and Winona; sister JoAnn; and brothers, Ralph, Jerry, Darrell, David, and Dennis.
