Wanda Jean Lane
Wanda Jean Lane, age 85, passed away peacefully on August 31,2026 in Altoona, Iowa, surrounded by her loving family.
Wanda was born on May 10th, 1941, to her parents Joseph and Grace Jacobs in Oskaloosa, Iowa. She grew up in Newton, Iowa, where she graduated high school, and she was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, August 17,1961. She went on to attend beauty school and to work as a beautician. She married the love of her life Paul Lane on April 20th, 1963, they started their family in 1964, she then began staying home to raise their children. She later was a teller and bookkeeper at First Newton National Bank until she retired. Wanda was married to Paul for 40 years before his passing.
Wanda loved sewing, reading, drawing, and puzzles. She was very intelligent and loved cooking. She was especially known for her homemade chicken and noodles and lasagna. She loved to donate her time and artistic ability to others. She also loved her jeep rides and being in nature.
Family was very important to Wanda. She is survived by her children Kenna (Rick) Potter, Steve (Kacie) Lane, and Brian (Tammy) Lane. Her grandchildren Stephanie (Ryan) Freerksen, Samantha Lane, Tanner Potter, Amora (Chris) Beckman, Haley (Evan) Rogers, and Riley (Malachi) Seyler. As well as 5 great-grandchildren Hazel, Iris, Greta, Sutton, and Franklin. She is also survived by her brother Marvin (Margaret) Jacobs, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Wanda was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Grace Jacobs, her husband Paul Lane, as well as her siblings Clinton, Johnny, Roland, Dorothy and Naomi.
More than anything Wanda will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and for her giving spirit. She leaves behind a lifetime of memories and love that will continue through the people who knew and loved her.
In accordance with Wanda’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. Her family will honor her memory privately and celebrate the life she lived and the love she shared with those around her.
