Victor Harry Nelson Jr.

Victor “Butch” Nelson Jr. was born on February 10th, 1961, and entered into rest August 20th, 2025.

He grew up in Des Moines and attended Abraham Lincoln High School. Anxious to serve his country, he got his GED and joined the Army where he had the distinct honor of cooking for President Carter and 17 Generals. He later had a variety of other jobs and trades. His larger than life personality, a smile you could see for miles and contagious laugh warmed the hearts of everyone. He had a heart for his community, assisting anyone in need and a passion for protecting his family and friends.

Butch is survived by children Zachary (Heather) Curry, Isaac (Jessica) Nelson and Ashley Leysath-Schlegel (Justin), grandson Zachary Curry II, his sister JoDee (Russ) Cross; nieces Becky (Zac) Oler and KayDee (Cory) Gideon; great nieces and nephews John, Grace and Isabella Oler, and Joshua and Mason Gideon; and his faithful pal Meshack.

He is preceded in death by his parents DeAnna and Cecil Calvert, son Joshua Nelson and Dee Dee his beloved dog.
