Thomas (Tommy) Charles Shockley was born on June 14, 1956 in Des Moines, Iowa, and passed on January 21, 2026 at University Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Des Moines, Iowa, where he was a resident.

In loving memory of a simple man who never needed much to be content—just good music, good company, and a reason to laugh. Tommy had a deep love for Conway Twitty and the warm, familiar sound of old‑time country music. When he wasn’t listening to country classics, he wanted to play pool and when he could no longer physically play, he dreamed about playing. And in his hand, more often than not, was an ice‑cold Mountain Dew, his favorite companion for just about any moment. Those who knew him will remember his simple jokes that he repeated endlessly for a good laugh and his unhurried way of moving through the world.

Thomas is survived by his brother Donald E.(Eileen) Carter and Willard J. (Judy) Carter. He leaves behind several nephews and nieces, and great nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his father Thomas C. Shockley, his mother Evelyn C. Ripperger, his sister Mary Hartman, his brother Fred Carter.

Tommy embraced simplicity—good music, good company, and the quiet contentment of doing what he loved. May he rest in peace, with Conway Twitty on the radio, a cue stick in hand, and a cold Mountain Dew waiting for him.

A Celebration of Life service will be held in May, with details to be announced at a later date.
