Terry Kleinschrodt

Terry Kleinschrodt passed away February 1, 2023, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston.

Terry was born January 7,1952 in Newton, Iowa to Phyllis and Keith Kleinschrodt. Terry graduated from Newton High School in 1970, where he played baseball, football and served as student council president. He attended Central College in Pella where he met Juli. After dating for 2 years, he and Juli went different directions pursuing their own goals with Juli graduating from Iowa State University and Terry proudly serving his country in the United States Air Force. He was an inventory management specialist, graduating from Lowry AFB as an honor student. Terry was named Airman of the Month, Airman of the Quarter and received the Wing Award at Upper Heyford AFB in Heyford, England. Terry got his marketing degree from the University of Northern Colorado. Eventually, as fate would have it, Terry and Juli were reunited 22 years later and married in 1996. Terry's career included grocery sales and food distribution. He was especially proud that he was the first food distributor to bring Mission Food products to Iowa stores.

As season ticket holders, Terry and Juli enjoyed cheering on the Iowa State Cyclones. They made many friends as they gathered together for Saturday tailgates. The North Shore of Lake Superior, especially Grand Marais, Mn., held a special place in Terry's heart. When his health still allowed, he loved hiking, fishing for walleye and picking wild blueberries. He always said this was his "happy place." Terry had a passion for cooking and grilling. He enjoyed sharing meals with family and friends. Terry's big heart, sense of humor and love of people will be missed.

Terry is survived by his wife, Juli; daughter, Krista Jackson; step-sons, Jacob Bennett (Allison); Jonathan Bennett (Liz); siblings, Ron Kleinschrodt (Judi); Brian Kleinschrodt (Tracy) and John Kleinschrodt; grandsons, Kamren Stephens, Hunter Schepper and Camden Bennett.

The family would like to extend a sincere thank-you to all of the staff at the Des Moines VA, DaVita Kidney Care, as well as Mercy Hospice for their compassionate care and support.

An inurnment will be held on April 17, 2023, at 12:30 PM at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery, located at 34024 Veterans Memorial Dr. Adel, IA 50003. A celebration of life and luncheon will be held afterwards at the Veterans Reception Center, located at 910 Main St. Van Meter, IA 50261.
