Tammy Mortenson

Tammy Mortenson, 52, of Ankeny passed away surrounded by family on September 23, 2026, at EveryStep Kavanagh House. Born on November 13, 1973, to Larry and Kathy Albright and eldest sister to Terri and Bill.
She grew up in Madrid, Iowa and graduated from Madrid High School in 1992 from a class of only 29 members.
In August of 1996 she met her husband Zac and married him on November 14, 1996. They welcomed their first daughter Alia (Ali) in 1997 and their second daughter Jadyn in 2002.
Tammy was a devoted person to all those around, to know her was to be seen. She was the first to defend you, support you, and so much more.
She was an Iowa State Graduate in 2000 in Child and Family Services, but that was just the start of her educational journey. She returned to school to become a nurse and completed her Registered Nursing degree in 2011. She then went on to receive her Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Master of Science in Nursing, and Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner. She also received her pediatric nursing certificate and was set to test for her mental health certificate on September 28, 2026. Caring for people was her passion, whether it be family or her patients.
Tammy was most recently a palliative care nurse practitioner with Unity Point, but her career also included over 20 years of caring for children with special needs at ChildServe.
Tammy’s love for her family knew no bounds. She is survived by her husband Zac Mortenson, her daughters Alia (Trevor) Rhoades and Jadyn Mortenson, her mother Kathy Albright, father Larry Albright, sister Terri (Ross) Boeding-Lincoln, brother Bill (Jill) Albright, nieces, nephews, in-laws, and so many others who she loved. She is preceded in death by her grandparents Bill (Jeri) Albright, and Wilbur (Nadine) Burkhart.
In addition to her daughters, she was the proudest, as she named herself, puppy nana.
She will, however, continue to have a presence in life through her daughters as she and Zac were determined to raise strong and kind kids. They made sure there was nothing that her Ali (Bubs) and Jadyn (Peanut) couldn’t do. She taught them to dream big and love even bigger.
While there will be no funeral services for Tammy as that was not her style, there will be a party to celebrate her instead on October 3, 2026, at Uptown Garage in Ankeny at 4pm. Tammy said that if you have to cry at least you should do it over a beer. Cheers.
