Steven James Wegmann, 66, of Elkader, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, December 20th, 2025, at Vintage Hills of Indianola surrounded by family. Steve was born on February 22, 1959, at Delaware County Memorial Hospital in Manchester, Iowa. He was raised in the Strawberry Point area and was a graduate of Starmont High School.

Steve married Alicia Howard in 1980 (d. 1998), and three children were born into this union. A multi-generational Northeast Iowa farmer, Steve was an avid outdoorsman that spent many of his years hunting and fishing near his acreage in Elkader with family and friends. He especially enjoyed hunting with his bluetick coonhounds – his favorite hounds were Jack and Crazy, a 2x BBOA “King of the Hunt” winner. Steve will be most remembered for his special ability to make you feel right at home any time you paid him a visit out at the farm. His memory will live on through the unforgettable stories he created with family and friends.

Steve is survived by his two sons, Jamie (Jennifer) and their daughter Claire, Joe (Rachel) and their daughters Taylor and Quinn, and his daughter, Jessica. He also leaves behind two sisters: Susie (Kyle), and Ann; his youngest brother, Michael (Craig); his sister-in-law Kathy; and three nieces, Ashley (Brad), Ava, and Sophia.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Ambrose “Butch” (2022) and Patricia “Patsy” (2016) Wegmann, as well as his beloved big brother, Chris (2013).

To honor Steve and his deep appreciation of the natural wonders of Northeast Iowa, our family asks that any desired donations or memorial contributions be made in his name to Clayton County Conservation.
