Roy Middleton

Roy Guy Middleton, 82, of rural Guthrie Center, peacefully passed away at home surrounded by family on April 24, 2021, after a courageous battle with COPD.


Roy Middleton was born on July 23, 1938, in Guthrie County to Guy and Ethel Middleton. He graduated from Yale High School in 1956. He married his high school sweetheart Jane Richards on February 2, 1957. To this union, they raised 4 children, Mike, Greg, DeAnna and Terry.


Roy and his mother operated Middleton Grocery in Yale, Iowa for many years before changing careers and moving to Wisconsin, running Whitlock and Strum Automotive. Upon retirement he and Jane built their "Middleton Timber Retreat" home in rural Guthrie Center.


In his retirement years, he enjoyed volunteering at the Guthrie County Hospital with Jane. Hobbies included many, many motorcycle trips, building things, boating, and playing with his many toys out in his timber, including cutting anything down with his chainsaw. His most enjoyable hobby was camping with Jane, traveling to various places in the US with family and friends.


Roy is survived by his children, Mike (Sabrina) Middleton, Prosper, Tx; DeAnna (Rick) Fidler, Guthrie Center, Terry Middleton, Davenport, IA., 11 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren, friend Charlotte Pittman and his best 4 legged companion, Abbey. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Rosella, wife Jane and son Greg.


A graveside service will be held at Moffit Grove Cemetery, Saturday June 5, 2021 at 11:00, with a luncheon afterwards at the Yale Community Center.


In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be directed to Hospice of the Midwest, 103 N 4th Street Guthrie Center, IA 50115.
