Ronald DeGroot

Ronald was born on June 21st, 1961, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He died on March 30th, 2026, at his home in Nevada, Iowa surrounded by his family. 

Ron grew up in Sioux City, Iowa and graduated from West High School in 1980. In his younger years, he frequented rock concerts, attended Job Corps, and moved throughout several states, settling down in central Iowa after meeting his wife, Cheri.

Ron was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He took great pride in supporting his children’s sporting events and extracurricular activities. He had a lifelong passion for all things automotive, working as a diesel mechanic and following NASCAR closely. Ron also loved the outdoors and spent much of his free time hunting, fishing, and camping.

Later in life, Ron cherished his time with his grandchildren, was a friend of Bill W, and was always willing to lend a helping hand.

Ron is survived by his loving wife, Cheri Lavely-DeGroot; his sons, Brandon DeGroot and Joshua (Shannon) Riggins; his daughters, Ashley Murray and Heather Murray; his grandchildren, Raelynn, Charles, Nyla, Hazel, and Myles; his mother, Marlys Britton; his siblings, Julie (Barry) Bower, Lisa Blaylock, Debbie (Mike) Elgert, and Jeff DeGroot; his brother-in-law, William (Michele) Lavely; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, George DeGroot; his stepfather, Marvin Britton; his brother-in-law, Patrick Blaylock; one aunt; and two uncles.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 11, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Christian Church, Fellowship Hall, 250 W. E Avenue, Nevada, Iowa 50201.
