Robert William “Bobby” Caquelin

September 14, 1946 – August 10, 2026

Robert William “Bobby” Caquelin, 79, was born on September 14, 1946, in Ames, Iowa. He passed away peacefully at 4:00 a.m. on August 10, 2026, while receiving hospice care at the VA Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. Military Honors will be held at the Iowa Veteran Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa on September 11, 2026, at 12:30 pm.

Bobby proudly served his country as a Vietnam Veteran and was honored with the Bronze Star for his service. His dedication and courage were a lasting part of the man he was, and his family was proud of his service to our country.

Bobby was a familiar face in the Des Moines community through his many years of work with Yellow Cab Company. He worked there from 1971 until his retirement in 2011, dedicating 40 years to the company.

Bobby will be lovingly remembered by his sister, Retta Caquelin Merritt and her husband, Dave; Eugene and Sandra Potter, his brother-in-law and sister-in-law; his stepchildren, Jeff (Renee) Gibson of Colorado, Joline Fregoso of Nevada, and Julie Hykes and her husband, Roy, of Nevada; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind many beloved aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.

Bobby was preceded in death by his beloved wife, MaryJo Gibson Caquelin; his parents, Don A. Caquelin and Evelyn B. Caquelin; and his brothers, Tim Caquelin and Phillip Caquelin.

Bobby lived a life marked by service, hard work, and love for his family. His memory will be carried in the hearts of those who knew and loved him, and he will be deeply missed.
