Richard “Dick” Byal was born September 28, 1941 at Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. He grew up on a farm in rural Mingo, Iowa and was educated in the Mingo schools. After high school graduation he attended Mercy Medical Center School of Radiologic Technology in Des Moines. After graduation he worked as a Registered Radiologic Technologist in Des Moines for 26 years before retiring from the profession in 1988. He then worked as a Senior Sales Rep. for Stogdill’s in Des Moines until his full retirement in 2010.
Dick was a past member of the American Society of Radiologic Technologists and the Iowa Society of Radiologic Technologists. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Des Moines, Iowa.
Dick enjoyed photography, long walks, and spending time with his family and friends.
Dick passed away on June 6, 2022 at MercyOne Hospice in Johnston at the age of 80. He was preceded in death by his parents Stanley and Faye Byal.
Dick is survived by his two sons: Jeffrey Scott Byal (Lisa) and John Richard Byal; three grandchildren: Brendan Byal (Erin), Curtis Byal, and Amanda Byal.
