Rashelle "Shelly" Sherod

Updated: Sep 16, 2021

Our beautiful mom, Rashelle “Shelly” Sherod, gained her wings on September 10,2021. Shelly was born and raised in Des Moines, IA by Richard Kimbley and Saundra (Gillette) Kimbley. She attended McKee, Hoyt and then East High school where she made many lifelong friends. She was married, had her first 2 children and divorced before meeting her long time partner Darin. They had a daughter and shared many good years together before his untimely passing.

If you knew Shelly, you knew everything was larger than life, from her hair, to her hoops, her bright lipsticks and eyeshadows to match….the bigger the better. When Shelly was around you could guarantee she’d have a cold Pepsi ready for you, Kid Rock blaring in the background and her infectious laugh and smile would light up the room. She was always ready to hit it big with her midnight casino runs…and would drop anything she had going on and run for anyone she loved.

Her very favorite thing in life was being a Grandma though, no question. Without a doubt Terence, Treasure, Serenity and Delanie were her very best friends. Those babies inspired her to push for a better life including fighting cancer, and other health issues, just to be the best grandma she could be. Although this was unexpected and a total shock to our family it brings us peace knowing she is preceded in death by her grandparents, Harold and Frances Gillette, parents, Saundra and Richard Kimbley, her longtime partner Darin Henderson and her granddaughter Kyrah Amos. She will be laid to rest alongside her parents and granddaughter at Highland Memory Gardens, which is exactly where she would want to be. She is survived by her children, Amanda Sherod, Jason Sherod, and Kylee Henderson. Her brother Rick Kimbley, nieces Katy Kimbley and Krissy Rost, nephew, Ricky Kimbley, their children, many cousins, aunts, uncles, and a host of friends. Please pray for us all during this extremely difficult time. Graveside services to bury cremains will be Friday, September 17,2021 at Highland Memory Gardens at 3pm. Please join us for her Celebration of Life following at Easter Lake Park, shelter 4 from 4pm-7pm.
