Randy Huntbach

Randy Scott Huntbach, 67, passed away on July 31st, 2026, from acute leukemia at Broadlawns Hospital in Des Moines. He was born on March 28th, 1959, to Charles and Dorothy Huntbach of Des Moines.
Randy enjoyed living his entire life in Beaverdale, a neighborhood in Des Moines. His childhood was spent playing in Ashby Park which was right outside his backyard.
Randy graduated from Hoover High School and the DMACC Building Trades Program. As a high school student, he was proud of a large clubhouse, complete with furniture, that he built at the top of a very tall tree in Ashby Park. Kids from around the city came to see it and were amazed at the size of the clubhouse and its height in the tree. Unfortunately, the DSM Parks and Rec Dept also heard about it and was not happy about it.
He also built a playhouse for his niece that matched her Beaverdale house. Randy worked on various construction projects in the Des Moines area. He was a builder at heart.
As a teenager, Randy enjoyed competing in dirt bike racing. Later, biking around Beaverdale became a favorite passtime. He also liked to walk through his neighborhood and meet people. Randy never knew a stranger and was always ready to strike up a conversation with friends or strangers. As he grew older, the walks became shorter because the talks increased.
Randy was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law, Ruth Huntbach. He is survived by brother, Charles C. Huntbach, sister Denise (Charlie) Townsend, 2 nieces, Amy Huntbach (Tim Laxton) and Courtney Townsend (Alex Brase).
A graveside memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday Oct. 19, at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery, located at 1 NE 60th Ave, Des Moines, IA. The grave site is in the Masonic Section.
