Melvin E. Holmberg

Melvin E Holmberg passed away on October 18, 2025. He lived his 85 years of life in Boone Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents Herman and Hedy (Hedevig) Holmberg, 4 sisters Helen (Floyd) Edson, Winona (Noni)/(Clayton) Sawyer, Darlene (Bob) Wullenwaber and Marvel (Joel) Holt, one brother Vern Holmberg. He is survived by his wife Carolynne of 45 years, his brother Marvin and his sister-in-law Barb Holmberg and so very many nieces and nephews.

He worked and retired after 36 ½ yrs for the Iowa Department of Transportation, first as a land surveyor and then a photogrammetrist (surveyor by way of aerial photos). He was delighted to say he traveled 18 winters to south Texas after retiring. He hated the cold and enjoyed being outside soaking up the sunshine, listening to his Saturday Night Oldies rock and roll. He was a jogger, enjoyed golf and bike riding for a time and then finally, was often seen walking all over town in his one of a kind, colorful shirts and pants until he broke his hip.  He was often seen sitting in his garage and commenting to everyone who wandered by luckily or unluckily depending on your point of view. He always had something to say. And wasn’t shy about saying it. He was quite the character, and he’ll be missed.
