On July 16, 2022, Meghan Yrigoyen (née Clarke) passed away unexpectedly in her sleep. She is survived by her daughter Kelsey Peterson, beloved grandson Matthew, and daughter Ysabel Yrigoyen, her brothers Peter (Gayle), Bede (Barbara), Aidan, and her sisters Moira (Steve) and Maeve (Jodi), many nieces and nephews, dear friends, but especially her best friend from childhood, Nora Bryant Abraham. She is dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
Meghan is preceded in death by her father, Peter Clarke, mother Beth Clarke (née Heinemann) and her brother Bernard.
She graduated from Davenport Central High School, in Davenport, Iowa and Western Illinois University in Macomb, Illinois.
Meghan taught first graders for over 25 years at Southern Boone Primary School in Ashland, Missouri. She was a gifted teacher, adored her students and taught thousands of children to love reading. Many of her students came back to visit her, citing her tenacious commitment to making sure that they all (“100%!) learned to read, as foundational to their success. She had recently relocated to the Des Moines area to be near her daughters and grandson. She loved being closer to them.
A memorial service will be planned for a later date. If you wish to honor her memory, please donate to a charity that supports children, public schools or literacy.
