Mary Lynn Vander Linden

(Mary) Lynn Vander Linden died February 3, 2024, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

Lynn was born December 16, 1946, in Galesburg, Illinois, to William and Maribelle Van Tuyl. The Van Tuyl family moved to California and Tennessee before settling in Pella, Iowa, where Lynn would meet her high school sweetheart and future husband, Robert (Bob) Vander Linden. The two were united in marriage on September 2, 1967. Growing up in Pella, the Van Tuyl family welcomed an AFS Foreign Exchange student, Anne Davies from (1964-1965), which fostered a lifelong and multigenerational extended family in England and Canada. Lynn served on the Tulip Time Royal Court and was crowned Homecoming Queen for Pella High School in 1965. Lynn graduated from the Iowa Methodist School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse in 1968. Lynn, Bob and their young daughter, Erin, moved to Clive, Iowa in the early 1980’s where Lynn worked in many positions as an R.N., but worked primarily as an operating room nurse for Iowa Methodist Hospital. She also worked as an ophthalmic nurse before retiring. She enjoyed spending time with friends, tennis, reading, playing cards and animals (particularly dogs). Lynn served in many roles and capacities in the philanthropic organizations of T.T.T chapter B.S, and P.E.O chapter H.X. Lynn’s family was the heartbeat of her life.

Lynn is survived by her daughter Erin (Adam) Gilbert, her brother Charles (Fran) Van Tuyl, many nieces and nephews, lifelong friends, and her extended Canadian family. They will all grieve and miss her. Lynn’s cremains will be interred next to her beloved husband of nearly 40 years, in Jordan Cemetery, West Des Moines, Iowa.
