Mary Esther (Ducker) Paul, a long-time resident of Broken Bow, Nebraska, passed away on October 2, 2024, in West Des Moines, Iowa after a long battle with dementia. She was the beloved daughter of Ellen Louise Yeager and Lloyd Howard Ducker, born April 24, 1947 in Clinton, Iowa. Although her life began and ended in Iowa, she was a Nebraska girl at heart.
Mary’s life was marked by a profound dedication to caring for others, whether as a professional caregiver for the elderly and disabled, or as a steadfast presence for her family and friends.
Despite leaving high school early, Mary later returned to earn her diploma while working full-time and caring for children, showing resilience and grit. She embraced her role as a caregiver, offering comfort and support to those in need, and lived by the values of perseverance and compassion. She had a special place in her heart for Custer Care in Broken Bow where she was both a caregiver and, later in life, a resident.
Mary is survived by her four children: Rhonda Inderkum, Angela Troiani, Marvin McAlevy, and Michelle Dufek; her sisters: Sherry Landen and Terrie Vela; and a brother: Eugene Ducker. She was a proud grandmother of 13 grandchildren and great-grandmother of 7 great-grandchildren. She cherished her family and found joy in crafting personalized greeting cards that she made for loved ones on special occasions. She was predeceased by her parents and two grandchildren, Paul and Christopher Troiani.
Her family will remember her for her selfless spirit, quiet strength, and boundless love. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either the Alzheimer’s Association or Custer Care in Mary’s name, honoring her commitment to helping others. A private service will be held for close family members.
