Mark "Bull" Raymond Anderson

Updated: Jan 25, 2022

It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that Mark’s family announces his passing after a brief and fierce battle with cancer.

Mark was born August 16, 1954 and passed away January 22, 2022 at EveryStep Kavanagh House in Des Moines, Iowa. Mark’s family was by his side during his journey to be with God.

Mark had retired as a Correctional Officer in 2017 from the Iowa Correctional Institution for Women in Mitchellville, Iowa. He had worked there for 17 years but as he would say, it was really 20 years with all the overtime he used to work.

Mark loved to travel with Lisa and friends to Cozumel, Mexico. They made lifelong friends along the way. He loved the outdoors fishing, kayaking, or just tinkering in his garage.

His favorite place was to be sitting on the front porch with a good cup of coffee, watching birds, and talking with Lisa.

He had a great passion for the St. Louis Cardinals. Mark had played baseball throughout his life starting with Southside Little League, Lincoln High School, and the University of Wisconsin in Madison.

Mark was a big man with a huge heart. He had a larger than life presence when he would enter a room. He would give the shirt off his back for anybody in need. He was the neighbor that anybody could count on.

Mark was very passionate about dog rescue. He and Lisa fostered many puppies together and made many trips to Kansas City to transport dogs back to Iowa to find their forever homes. His four dogs at home will miss him so much-Brick, Angel, Scarlett, and Poppy.

Mark is survived by his wife, Lisa Anderson of Mitchellville. Son, Tim (Nichole) Anderson of Ankeny, daughters, Nicole (Jamie Hoover) of Des Moines, Stephanie Berry (Jason Moos) of Colfax, and Taylor Berry (Alexis) of Mitchellville. He is also survived by two nephews that he loved so much, Nick Ptasnik of Omaha, Nebraska and Sean Kelly of Centennial, Colorado. He loved his grandchildren with all of his heart. Aron Anderson of Ankeny, Cody Anderson of Ankeny, Hudson and Everlee Moos of Colfax, and the future Paislee Berry of Mitchellville. He is also survived by Lisa's family: Richard and Barbara Seibert of Waukee, George Seibert of West Des Moines, Leslie and Pat Sullivan of Urbandale, Lori Carroll (Mike Duffy) of Belleville, IL; and several nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be in April. Details will be available at a later date. Interment of cremated remains will be at Mitchellville Cemetery at a later date.

Memorial contributions in Mark’s memory can be give to Forever Home Dog Rescue, PO Box 380 Johnston, Iowa 50131 or EveryStep Kavanagh House, 900 56th Street Des Moines, Iowa 50312-1806.
