Marjorie E. Marmon, age 101, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2025, at Royal Oaks Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.


Marjorie was born on June 9, 1924, in Des Moines, where she spent her life surrounded by family, friends, and community. She graduated from East High School in 1942 and went on to earn her certification as a Registered Nurse in 1945. In 1949, she married her beloved husband, James Marmon.


Marjorie’s nursing career began as an Operating Room Nurse at the Veterans Administration Hospital and continued as a newborn nurse at both Mercy and Methodist Hospitals in Des Moines, where she worked as a dedicated and compassionate nurse for more than 40 years. Known for her steady kindness and professionalism, she touched countless lives through her care and commitment.


After retiring, Marjorie enjoyed traveling—especially to Texas—and cherished every moment spent with her family. She had three sons and loved watching them play baseball, softball, and ping-pong. Her simple joys were growing her own tomatoes, going out to eat, cheering for the Chicago Cubs and Kansas City Chiefs, and spending evenings playing cards and games with family and friends. Marjorie was also fond of her cat, Snow, who brought her daily companionship.


She is survived by her three sons, James, Robert, John (April); her siblings, Bob (Betty) Darrah and Ruth Root and nieces and nephews. Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband and parents. Inurnment will be held at Glendale Cemetery, Des Moines.


In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to a charity of your choice in Marjorie’s memory.


Marjorie’s life was one of compassion, dedication, and love—a legacy that will live on through all who knew her.
