Margaret Nelson

Margaret “Margie” Nelson, 86, was born July 22, 1939, in Des Moines, Iowa, and passed away peacefully on May 7, 2026, at Harmony West Des Moines Care Center.

Margie lived in the Des Moines area her entire life and attended Altoona schools. She was well known for her outgoing personality, wonderful sense of humor, and the many friendships she made throughout the years. Margie worked as a bank teller for Midlands Credit Union for over 20 years, where she enjoyed helping others and visiting with customers. She was also a proud and active member of the Red Hat Club and loved spending time with friends and family.

For more than 20 years, Margie made her home at AHEPA 192 Apartments in Johnston, where she built many lasting friendships and became a beloved part of the community.

She is survived by her loving family, son Kevin (Nancy) Nelson; nieces, nephews, cousins, including her close cousin Tom Jensen; and many dear friends.

Margie was preceded in death by her son Bryce; daughter Lynn; parents Carver and Irene; brother Vollie Sr. (Betty); sister Carene; and Aunt Max and Uncle Bud.

A Celebration of Life will be held on May 16, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at AHEPA 192 Apartments, 6190 NW 59th Court #121, Johnston, Iowa. Brownies and cookies will be served as family and friends gather to remember and celebrate Margie’s life.
