Lynda Elmore

Updated: Jul 24, 2024

Lynda Lafferty Elmore, 81, passed away Sunday, July 21, 2024 after a short battle with lung and lymphatic cancer. A longtime Des Moines resident, Lynda was known for her caring dedication and commitment to family and friends alike.

Throughout her life, her wry sense of humor brought much joy and lots of laughter to those around her be they family, friends or outright strangers. Without hesitation, when a problem arose for anyone around her, Lynda was the first to come up with a solution and take charge to make that solution a reality.

She will be dearly missed by those who loved and knew her well, as well as those who had the pleasure of knowing her only fleetingly.

Lynda briefly attended North High School, and eventually graduated from Lincoln High School in Des Moines. She was a dedicated stay-at-home mother until 1979, when she joined the workforce. She eventually retired from Iowa’s Workforce Development Department in the mid-1990s.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard M. and Lenore E. Lafferty, in 1983 and 2005 respectively. She was also preceded in death by her youngest son, Shawn M. Elmore in 2011.

Lynda is survived by her three daughters and son, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Her beloved daughters include Diana DeMarlie (North Liberty, IA) her grandson Colin De Marlie (LeClaire,IA) and granddaughter Cara Taylor (North Liberty, IA); daughter Mindy Efobi (West Des Moines, IA) and her grandson Dylan Efobi (Des Moines, IA); daughter Missy Jasper and granddaughters Chelsey and Jaclyn Jasper and grandson Jon Jasper (all of Cincinnati, OH); as well as son Robert (Robbie) Elmore Jr. (Phoenix, AZ).

She is also survived by her two brothers: Patrick R. Lafferty (Kohn Kaen, Thailand) and her niece, Gina Winne (Des Moines, IA) and nephews Callin Prieskorn (West Des Moines, IA) and Max Lafferty (Kansas City, MO);  and brother Michael C. Lafferty (Littleton, CO) and her nieces Alysson Lafferty (Denver, CO) and Kady Lafferty (Christiansburg, VA).

At her request, there will be a private burial. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family to help with funeral expenses.
