Lyn James Higgins

Lyn James Higgins was born on December 13, 1958, and passed away on September 20, 2026, surrounded by loved ones at his daughter’s home in Altoona, Iowa.
Lyn was born to Suzanne and James Higgins in Pennsylvania, where he spent his childhood alongside his older sister, Susan Higgins. As part of a military family, Lyn lived in many different places throughout his younger years before eventually settling in Florida, where he spent the majority of his adult life.
Lyn was a computer scientist whose career allowed him to make meaningful contributions to the fields of aerospace engineering and defense. Throughout his career, he worked with NASA, Lockheed Martin, and Raytheon, taking great pride in the important work he was able to be a part of.
Lyn was a devout Christian who deeply loved the Lord and carried his faith with him throughout his life. While residing in Orlando, Florida, he attended Avalon Church, and later, while living in Benson, Arizona, he attended Calvary Baptist Church. His faith remained an important source of strength and guidance throughout his life.
Lyn had a great love for the outdoors and could often be found hiking or camping, enjoying the beauty and peacefulness of nature. He was rarely alone on these adventures, often closely followed by one of his beloved four-legged companions—Spirit, Paxton, or Rambo.
Lyn is survived by his sister, Susan; his two daughters, Tina Wickham and Emily Stokes; his stepson, Alex LaFlam-McFall; and his four grandchildren. Near the end of his life, Lyn also lovingly stepped into the role of grandfather to two foster children, welcoming them into his heart and family.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2026, beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Celebration Gardens in Winter Park, Florida. Parking is available at 1836 Crandon Ave., Winter Park, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that expressions of sympathy be made through a charitable donation to the National Park Foundation, helping to preserve the beautiful places Lyn loved so dearly for his grandchildren and for generations to come.
Lyn will be remembered for his faith, his love of family, his remarkable career, and his appreciation for the beauty of the outdoors. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
