LaVeta Ruth Bigner, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Sunday November 9th 2025, at the age of 73. She was born on October 8, 1952, in Osceola, Iowa, to Shannon and Bonita Edwards.
LaVeta grew up in the Saydel area and graduated from Saydel High School. She later attended Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC). She worked for many years at Central Tractor before continuing her career at EMC Insurance Company, where she made many lasting friendships.
LaVeta was preceded in death by her parents, Shannon and Bonita Edwards, her sister, Debra Edwards and brother Charlie Edwards.
She is survived by her brothers Gary Edwards, Rodney Edwards, and Edwin Edwards; her beloved husband, Donald Bigner; and her stepchildren, Amanda Sayavong and Seth Bigner. She was a proud grandmother to Alex Sayles, Autumn Lee, Adaym Lee, Prince Tristin Lee, Henry Bigner-Williams, Haley Bigner, and Nick Bigner, and a great-grandmother to little Emersyn Bigner. She also cherished her many nieces and nephews, who brought her great joy.
LaVeta gave her life Christ at Norwoodville Baptist Church and have been a faith full follower ever since. LaVeta loved spending time with her family—especially visiting with her grandkids, nieces, and nephews. She enjoyed watching her favorite shows like Blue Bloods, Heartland, and watching hallmark movie’s and found comfort in listening to gospel music, particularly the Gathers and Mark Lowry.
LaVeta will be remembered for her gentle heart, her love for family, and the joy she brought to everyone around her.
