
Larry Eugene Barton was born on May 4, 1953, in Creston, IA and passed away on January 24, 2025, at the Veterans Hospital Hospice in Des Moines, IA after he lost his battle to cancer.
He was a Navy Veteran which he served from November 13, 1972, to March 19, 1975, as a Hull Maintenance Technician on the USS Francis Marion. He was a great father, grandfather, big brother, and friend to many that knew him. He loved working with his hands which included him teaching the grandchildren his knowledge secrets of the many “jack of all trades” skills. He was a man who loved the outdoors which included fishing, camping, hunting, and gardening. He also enjoyed his downtime by watching NASCAR or the westerns shows on TV which he would take his naps.
He is survived by his wife Karen Barton, his children Melissa Barton, Melanie Mathews, Nathan (Helen Lee) Barton, Kristina (Duane) Feik, his grandchildren (Jacob, Shailah, Jared, Alexis, Luke, Caleb, Bailey, and Joey) and 3 great grandchildren, his brother Roger Austin (Jones), sister Anna Whetzell, and his uncle Clarence (Sharon) Keller.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents Rhoda and Luther Keller, his parents Buelah and Robert Jones, and his aunts Rosalie Blue and Virginia Pierce.
Larry will be laid to rest at the Iowa Veteran Cemetery with Naval Honors on Friday, January 31, 2025, at 12:30 pm. Thank you for all your prayers and thoughtful suggestions. Please continue to keep our family in your prayers.
