Kevin Robert Stewart, 66, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2026, in Des Moines, Iowa, with his family by his side following a short hospital stay.
Kevin was born on March 14, 1960, in Anchorage, Alaska, to Alvin and Karen Stewart. He was preceded in death by his father, Alvin, and is survived by his mother, Karen, and his three brothers: Craig Stewart and his wife, Ann; Keith Stewart; and Larin Stewart and his wife, Melody.
Kevin graduated from Oelwein High School with the Class of 1978. While in school, he learned to play the trombone, an instrument that would become an important part of his life. He continued sharing his love of music by playing trombone with the Urbandale Community Band and the New Horizons Band.
Kevin was a devoted fan of the Iowa State Fair. Each year, he looked forward to attending on the very first day, where one of his favorite traditions was taking his annual photograph of the butter cow.
His faith and church family were also an important part of his life. Kevin enjoyed being a part of Westover Community Church and treasured the fellowship and friendships he found there.
Kevin will be remembered by his family and friends for the interests and traditions that brought him joy, his love of music, and the many memories he created with those around him.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at:
Westover Community Church
Family and friends are invited to gather together to celebrate Kevin's life and share memories of a life well lived.
A memorial fund is set up in his honor and proceeds will be donated to his church and the American Heart Association.
