Karen Lea Donahoe

Karen lea Donahoe, age 77, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away on January 25, 2026, at MercyOne Hospital in Des Moines.

Karen was born on March 4, 1948, in Des Moines, Iowa, to the late Roy Helton and Edith (Exline) O’Neill. She graduated from East High School in 1966, attended college, and worked as a beautician for a time before beginning her career with L&L Insulation, where she served as their IT specialist and accountant.

In 1978, Karen married Anthony J. Donahoe. She had a lifelong love for animals and was especially devoted to showing her beloved Shetland Sheepdogs—Jude, Lady, and Lucky.

Karen is survived by her stepchildren: Mark (Rhonda) Donahoe of Minnesota, David (Denise) Donahoe of Minnesota, and Kevin (Chris) Donahoe of Florida; her sisters, Kathaleen (Kathy) Armstrong of Iowa and Jamie (Ted) Stith of Wyoming; six step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony “Tony” Donahoe; her father, Roy Helton; her mother, Edith O’Neill; and her stepfather, James O’Neill.

Cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. The Cremation Society of Iowa is handling the arrangements. Memorial donations may be made in Karen’s name to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa.
