Julie Bernard

Julie Bernard, 47, was born in Corning, IA on April 13, 1974 to Doyle and Barbara (Brown) Day. Julie passed away peacefully on May 7, 2021 at Every Step Hospice House in Des Moines, Iowa.


Julie was raised in Lenox, IA and graduated from Lenox High School in 1992. She then went on to attend Cornell University in Cedar Rapids, IA where she graduated with a bachelor's degree in psychology. After graduation, Julie moved to Chicago, IL where she put her education to good use working with inner-city troubled youth. Missing home and family, Julie decided to move back to Iowa where her heart was.


Once back in Iowa, she continued her career for many years helping disabled individuals who had suffered traumatic brain injuries. Most recently, she was a Mortgage Underwriter with Wells Fargo where she met many of her most treasured friends.


Once settled back in Iowa and living in Des Moines, she met her husband, Heath Bernard. They married on October 6, 2002. Together, they share three beautiful children: Rachel, Paige, and Leah. Julie loved being a mother and was incredibly selfless when it came to her children.


Always up for a good laugh, Julie was well known for her wit and sarcasm, which she loved to share with others. She loved music and enjoyed going to concerts with family and friends, for whom she would do anything. Julie was admired by those who knew her for her ability to take everything that life threw at her in stride, with a positive attitude and unwavering determination.


This incredibly strong and loving woman will be greatly missed by her husband, Heath Bernard; daughters, Rachel, Paige, and Leah; siblings, Cheri Day, Angi (Scott) Hartman, Marcie (Rick Huffman) Huber, Jerad (Jacquelyn) Huber; brother-in-law Andrew (Travis) Bernard; step-mother, Linda Reynolds; 6 nieces, 3 nephews, many cousins, and countless close friends, including her very best friend, Shelly Udomon.


She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Harlan and Zelma Brown, Clarence and Opal Day; parents, Doyle and Barbara (Brown) Day; and Nephew, Justin Love.


She will be missed by all who knew her. A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held at a later,

to-be-determined, date.
