Julianna (Julie/Jules/Grams/GG/Papa/Geeg/G-Ma…etc) Hardy
July 18, 1937 - June 25, 2024
On the evening of Tuesday, June 25th, 2024, Julie Hardy, 86, of Des Moines, IA passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends.
She is survived by her loving family; children Mary Hardy, Jean Hunter (Michael Hunter), Mark Hardy (Siobhan Hardy), Katie Yoder (Darren Yoder), and son in law Patrick Thornton (Katy Thornton). As well as twelve grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Julie was a one-of-a-kind mother and friend to many. She loved her family more than anything in this world…except maybe a cold glass of scotch, really any temperature scotch, cigarettes, a good party, and room temperature beer… “Could you microwave that for me?” A first for that waiter.
Julie’s family didn’t just include genetics, she counted so many friends in her life as family and welcomed them as such. She was always the life of the party and wasn’t afraid to join in on any shenanigans going on, your mistake if you tried to stop her.
She enjoyed anything that brought people together and a fan of anything that facilitated it; cards, golf, and any kind of game. A slip and slide at 80 might not have been the best idea, but done with gusto, no injuries sustained.
But the thing she enjoyed most was watching those she loved love each other and watching them all grow and create their own beautiful lives. Julie Hardy had an immense amount of love in her heart and was never afraid to share it.
She was preceded by her husband Jerry Hardy and daughter Laura (Annie) Thornton, who walked her right through those pearly gates.
Services to be held Friday, June 28th at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 2926 Beaver Ave, Des Moines. There will be a rosary at 11:00 am, Memorial Mass to start at 12:00pm.
In lieu of other tributes, donations may, if desired, be directed to EveryStep Kavanagh House.
