Joe Coverdell, a lifelong resident of Iowa, went home to God, our loving Father in Heaven, having known a life filled with love, admiration, and success.

Joe was deeply loved by his family and many, many friends. He was a talented and respected musician, a skilled gardener, and a dedicated concrete and cement business owner. Joe had a passion for teaching and took great pride in sharing his many talents with others. He mentored and inspired countless family members and friends, including his brothers Lennie and Tony, his son Joey, his nephews Robert and Anthony, as well as many cousins and friends.

Joe is survived by his son, Joseph “Joey” Gomez; daughter, Stacy Cardines Gomez; five grandchildren; brothers Tony, Alan, Big Len, and Ray; sisters Dodie "Graham" Coverdell, Geri Rae, Mary, and Lori; uncles Johnny and George; and many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his lifelong love and best friend, Bette; his parents, Charlotte and Nelson; brothers Lennie, Bob, Jimmy, Don, and David; sisters Julie, Peg, and Deb; aunts Dody, Dee Dee, and Judy; uncles Jack, Keith, Jerry, Stephen, and Kenny; and many beloved cousins.

A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Unravel Pediatric Cancer Iowa, dedicated to more effective and less toxic treatments for children (our youngest warriors), in memory and honor of Joe and his beloved niece, Brya. https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/bryaforever

Joe will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
