James (Jim) R. Youngblood, 84 of Johnston, IA passed away from natural causes Wednesday, November 1st, 2023, doing what he loved, cutting firewood and enjoying nature. Jim was born in Ohio on October 20, 1939. He spent a good portion of his life in Avon and Avon Lake, OH before moving to Johnston.
Jim served in the U.S Army Security Agency (ASA), before joining the National Security Agency (NSA), and later taking a role in hospital administration for Iowa Health in Des Moines supporting Iowa Methodist Hospital. He was an avid outdoors person and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and anything else that was outdoors related. He spent many hours as a volunteer with both the Great Outdoors Foundation and Polk County Conservation with a strong belief in their mission and vision. He also treasured his friendships within the Amish community in Winterset that he had developed over the years.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 49 yrs, Barbara and his parents. He is survived by a son Craig (Sonya) Youngblood, daughter Lynne (Todd) Deimerly, and grandchildren Carter, Grant, and Macy Youngblood.
A celebration of life will be held 2:30 to 4:30 pm on 11/18/2023 at the Chapel Hill Gardens, 4400 Merle Hay Rd, Des Moines IA 50310.
