Jerry Lee Reed

Jerry Lee Reed, 82, passed away peacefully on March 29, in West Des Moines, Iowa at​ ​his home.

He was the son of William and Ruby Reed of Grinnell, Iowa. Born in Grinnell, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trapping in his younger years. He developed a passion for working out, running, and cycling. He often told acquaintances he was a “gym rat”. He never knew a stranger. He graduated from Grinnell High School and retired at age 65 after working Certainteed Manufacturing for several years.

He had two children, Vanessa Bartlet Reed and Austin Reed and three grandchildren Elijah, Silas, Zoey and two step grandsons, Logan and Tanner Reel. 

He was proudly married to his devoted wife Rita; they shared thirty-two year loving relationship. 

Jerry had five siblings that have passed away, Larry, Joyce, Dennis, Janet and Linda. He has one living sibling, Gordy Reed.

Jerry served in the Navy and was honorably discharged as a corpsman. He will have military service to honor him a celebration of life will be held after the service for family and close friends. 

 Burial at Shaul Cemetery 1339 Bluegrass Rd, Ottumwa, IA 52501, on April 12, at 1 p.m.
