Jerry Lee Grimit

Jerry Lee Grimit, 60, of Des Moines, IA, succumbed to his biggest challenge of Metastatic Breastbone Cancer on June 20, 2026. 


Jerry was born on November 26, 1965, as the youngest twin of two boys to Lloyd and Leona Grimit. Jerry was the youngest of four boys.


Jerry attended Ottumwa High School from where he graduated in 1984. He attended Indian Hills Community College where he graduated in 1985 from auto mechanics. After graduation, Jerry moved to Texas to work for Andy Granitelli’s Tune Up Master as well as living in Tucson, AZ for a while. He moved back to Texas and finally came back home and went to work for Precision Tune where he met his wife of 39 years Rhonda (Kusel) Grimit.


Jerry and Rhonda met each other in February of 1987 and knew each other was the one for them. They married on July 18th, 1987. Four years later they welcomed their son Cortlan. Jerry also worked for Don’s Auto and Truck for 10 years, WHO tv for two years, and finally to Ryder Transportation where he found it to be home for 30 years. Along with working at Ryder, he and his wife did foster care for three years and Respite Care for five years and found another home at Jordan Creek Town Center as a security officer part time for nine years.


Jerry is survived by his wife Rhonda and son Cortlan. His twin brother Gary (Rachael) Grimit and their son Bobby Grimit, his sister-in-law Jo Lynne (Barry) Long, and their son Brandan (Danielle) Long and great niece Braelynn Long and great nephew Bentley Long.


He is preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, his oldest brother Leland Partin, and his brother Larry Grimit.


Jerry did not want any funeral services. He wanted people to remember how they used to see him. He did wish to have a Celebration of Life on July 18th, 2026, at Pioneer Park from 12:00pm to 5:00 pm, at 1650 E Pioneer Rd, Des Moines, IA 50320
