Janet Daniels

Janet Daniels, age 87, died May 16, 2026, in Johnston, Iowa. Janet was born on 12/31/38 in Bode, Iowa to James and Violet Moen. After her parents divorced, she was raised by Harold and Violet Mitsven. In addition to being a very good student, she also played sports, especially basketball. Janet graduated as the Valedictorian of the Twin Rivers High School in 1957. After high school, she moved to Des Moines and worked at Meredith Corporation. She married Conley Daniels (dec 2015) in 1959, and they began their family in 1961. Janet and Conley had four children in five years. Steve and Kathy Daniels currently live in Forsyth, Missouri. Like Conley, Steve retired from Firestone. Amy and Scott Peterson live in Brooklyn Park, MN, where they raised two children, Zack and Sarah. Both of whom had baby boys in 2025. Lisa and Dan Wilson lived in Tucson, AZ. Lisa died from colon cancer in 2012. Gregg and Amanda Daniels live in Johnston, Iowa and have been instrumental at helping Janet for the past 15 years.

After living in Des Moines, the Daniels family moved to the Johnston area in 1977. Janet was employed by the DM school district at East High School where she managed the audio and video capabilities. As her kids began leaving home, she decided to get her degree and graduated from DMACC (Ankeny) in 1985 after studying computer programming. She accepted a position with the Principal Financial Group where she worked as a Systems Analyst until she retired in 1997. She spent many years with Conley in retirement. They traveled a lot, became snowbirds, and annually traveled to Florida with their friends from St. James Lutheran Church in Johnston. Janet also maintained her long-term friendship with school friends, Judy, and June, and spent time with them as well.

Janet was a wonderful wife and mother. Having so many kids in a short time is a challenge. She combatted that with activities all kids would love snowy sled rides through the neighborhood where she was the horsepower, summer trips to the local pool, swimming lessons, Scouts, baseball teams, frosting Christmas cookies and dealing with an endless supply of kids at her house. She expected good school performance and helped those that needed it. She was greatly loved and will be missed.

In her later years, Janet moved out of her condo on Grand Ave in DSM and into Meadowview of Johnston in Johnston, Iowa, where they took exceptional care of her. In the last stages of her life, she watched an endless supply of Murder She Wrote. Towards the end she was also supported by Mercy Hospice. The family sends its thanks to all of the staff at Meadowview of Johnston and Mercy Hospice who helped her. We are forever grateful for the compassion and care that was shown to our mother.
